FIVE jobs are to be axed from Lancaster's Asda store as part of a nationwide plan to put more employees on the shop floor.
The supermarket giant has announced that a total of 1,400 managerial roles are being shed nationwide.
But a spokesman for the company says that of the jobs shed from management, some 1,200 will be added in stores.
"It will mean more hours for hourly paid colleagues and so it should generate an extra three jobs in every store.
"It will mean there will be more workers on the shop floor to deal with customers."
The cuts, which will affect each of the 279 UK stores, are to enable the supermarket to 'invest in frontline customer service'.
