A TRAVELLER who wants to settle down with his family in Morecambe has lodged a new project with city planners.
Mark Wilson was outraged that his plans for a traveller site with seven caravans, a stable and a toilet block on land at Out Moss Lane were thrown out in April.
He said at the time he would fight the decision 'all the way' - and now he has lodged three separate plans for the land with the council.
He wants to change the use of the land to site seven caravan pitches and is seeking retrospective consent for engineering works and installation of a septic tank.
He has also applied to put up a toilet and stable block.
The city's planning committee said in April there was already an 'adequate supply' of traveller pitches in the area and that a stable block would be at risk in a flood plain.
But Mr Wilson, who claims he owns the land, says his family has nowhere else to go.
The father-of-six told the Citizen: "There are not enough sites for gypsies. There are other sites in the area but they are for the owners' families and Lancashire County Council's Mellishaw site already has a long waiting list.
"If we had applied for a site on Oxcliffe Road it would have been passed - the council just wants to keep travellers in one area. It is worried about opening the floodgates and having hundreds of gypsies in the area - but that isn't going to happen."
