I SUPPORT the campaign for a Western link road because of the damage the Northern route will do both to the countryside and residents' lives.
As an 80-year-old living in the Cross Hill area with no car I am appalled at the thought of having to walk through an underpass to shop, attend church or do anything else in Torrisholme - and I am sure that young mums who now walk to school each day with their children feel the same.
The underpass will be the only direct way that people without transport can walk into the village.
Over the last few years Torrisholme has lost its public telephone, toilets and post office.
The building of this high level, noisy and monstrous Northern link road will not only cause distress and difficulty for local people and spoil the countryside forever but it will also surely sound the death knell for a once thriving village.
Jean Gilligan, Lancaster.
