A DARWEN Indian restaurant's special lager has been given the ultimate Westminster seal of approval.

Sukhi's Indian Lager, which is served at Sukhi's Restaurant, Duckworth Street, will be a guest beer in the Strangers Bar, in the House of Commons.

And the town's MP Janet Anderson, a regular customer at the Indian restaurant, is convinced that her MP colleagues will enjoy the specially brewed lager, which is also served at the Ashoka restaurant in Rawtenstall.

The beer is specially brewed for the restaurant by the Hepworth and Company brewers in Horsham, West Sussex.

She said: "It is excellent lager. The Sukhi is my local Indian restaurant and serves wonderful food. It once won a national award for its chicken tikka masala.

"I am not a big lager drinker but I make an exception in Sukhi's because it's so good.

"I do tend to wash down my Indian meals there with the lager. I am sure my MP colleagues will enjoy it as much as I do.

"I wrote to the chairman of the refreshment committee asking them to put it on and he took my word about its quality.

"It will be in the Strangers Bar for two weeks and on Wednesday the people from the restaurant and the brewery are coming to London for an official ceremony to mark the occasion.

"I am absolutely delighted that the restaurant and the lager have got their accolade."

The lager was commissioned for Sukhi's by owner Sukhi Gohel and has been served at the restaurant for seven months.

Mr Gohel said: "It's brilliant that our lager will be sold in the House of Commons and shows it's one of the best lagers in East Lancashire. We had a minister from the House of Commons come to Sukhi's and he tried the lager and said it was brilliant.

"Janet Anderson has been trying to get Sukhi's lager into the House of Commons for a while and now it has finally happened."
