A PENSIONER was beaten and kicked in the street early today as he walked home from a night out in Clitheroe.

The 75-year-old Ribble Valley man, who has not been named by police, suffered a serious eye injury and other facial injuries in the attack.

Emergency medical crews were called to the Tower Hill estate in Clitheroe at 1.40am and the man was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

A police spokesman said: "We are still unaware of the full circumstances of the incident but a complaint has been made to us about an assault. "We are starting from square one with inquiries and we have yet to interview the old man.

"We still are not positive of how he was found or who alerted the emergency services but obviously an investigation is being carried out."

A 16-year-old youth is helping police with their inquiries.
