A COUNCILLOR from East Lancashire has hit out at a steamy television advert claiming it degrades women.
Bill Goldsmith, a member of Hyndburn Council, was so incensed by the advertisement for Accurist watches he contacted the Independent Television Commission.
Coun Goldsmith has taken exception to the TV advert which shows a couple making love on a bed.
The boy then presents the girl with a watch and a voice-over says: "Girls who play their cards right get what they want."
Coun Goldsmith said: "I am not a prude and this advertisement goes out after the watershed.
"It is not the sex I find offensive but it is the implication behind the advert which upsets me."
The angry Oswaldtwistle councillor added: "I am a parent and a grandparent and would hate to think that young people are picking up attitudes as offensive as these from television.
"What this advert seems to be saying if you are a young woman you can get what you want by having sex.
"That idea is offensive to me and that is why I decided to complain to the ITC."
The television authority has promised to send a full report on its findings to Coun Goldsmith.
