A SUPERB display of determination and skill on a frost-bound pitch enabled Chorley to complete a notable league double over championship challengers Guisely yesterday.

After surviving two scares in the opening minutes, the Magpies settled down to dominate the game.

Solid defensive work with Hook and Paul Fleming outstanding meant that keeper Marsh did not have to make a difficult save, while in attack Chorley were much the sharper and the pace of Brian Ross repeatedly troubled the Guiseley rearguard.

A neat build-up after 10 minutes brought Chorley a corner and following the kick Kenny Mayers swept them into the lead.

Then on 61 minutes a brilliant goal by teenage starlet Lee Trundle put Chorley back in control. Following a determined run and interchange with Ross, Trundle worked his way across the edge of the box before thundering an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.

Ten minutes later Dean Emerson, influential for Chorley throughout, released Ross through the middle and the Magpies leading scorer confidently slipped the ball past the keeper to make victory secure.
