A YOUNG female driver escaped from a twisted car wreck with just cuts and bruises.

Tracy Harris had to be freed by firemen after her A-registered Ford Fiesta ploughed into the back of a stationary lorry as she drove along Midgeland Road, Blackpool.

South Shore firemen dashed to the morning rush-hour scene and released her from the wreck almost immediately.

Fire officers at the scene said they believed she was momentarily blinded by the early morning sun.

The side of the truck ploughed through the passenger side of the car, but fortunately there was no one travelling with Tracy at the time.

Rush-hour traffic was held up briefly as all three emergency services attended the scene at Midgeland Road's junction with School Road.

Miss Harris, from Longway, Blackpool, received facial injuries, bruises and was treated for shock at the scene of the accident by paramedics before being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital. She was released later in the day.

Sub-officer Steve Palmer, said: "She was fortunate she did not receive more serious injuries."
