BURNLEY'S kit sales for the eye-catching white away shirt were badly hit after suppliers Mitre missed a giant pre-Christmas order.

The national kit suppliers were believed to have promised to deliver 2,000 shirts by mid-November.

But only a limited number of the new kits materialised to sell at Turf Moor in time for the Christmas rush to leave many Turf Moor fans angry and frustrated.

Now there is speculation that Burnley could seek a new supplier for the 1996/97 campaign when agreements come up for renewal in the summer.

"We were very disappointed that the kit did not arrive in time and we may be looking elsewhere," said a club spokesman. "We will not be rushed into any decision. Overall we have enjoyed a good relationship with Mitre and the quality of their goods have been excellent.

"There is nothing signed and sealed. We will review the situation when the time is right."

Meanwhile, season ticket sales at Turf Moor have dipped following relegation back to Division Two.

Burnley can now boast a fan-base of just over 5,000 season ticket holders. Figures peaked last season with 7,500 season tickets sold for the First Division campaign.

The Clarets have secured a ten-year loan from the Trustee Savings Bank to help with the partial fund of the Turf Moor ground redevelopment.
