MORE young people were seriously injured on training schemes in the North West than anywhere else in the country.

A total of 41 teenagers on Youth Training schemes were involved in major accidents in the year to June, with a further 196 suffering minor injuries, according to figures released today by the Labour Party.

A further eight were badly hurt on Training for Work schemes and 42 slightly injured over the 12 months.

Shadow employment minister Ian McCartney said the figures were an 'absolute disgrace.'

"Training for work should be about improving your chances of finding a job not putting you at risk of disablement."

Mr McCartney is now calling for an investigation into the accident rates.
