AN ARTIST and author is aiming to raise £2,500 to help needy children.

Rob Watson has created a scene recalling one of Blackburn Rovers' greatest triumphs when they defeated Burnley in a cup replay. The match followed a 3-3 draw at Turf Moor when Rovers had come back from being three down. They later went on to lose the 1960 FA Cup Final.

"My dad came from Blackburn and I have a lot of fond memories of coming over to the town from Burnley with the family," said Rob, from Burnley.

"So I thought it would be a good scene to use, even if I might get some stick for it from my friends and neighbours."

While prints of Rob's work usually sell at more than £100 and originals can cost more than £1,000, he has priced this print, including the frame, at £65.

"All the profits will go towards helping provide days out for youngsters with learning difficulties and those who have been abused.

"I organise trips with teachers for them to have a day out at local farms, which they thoroughly enjoy."

The print shows the old-style Ewood Park and is littered with references to the club's achievements and its personalities.

Also featured are characters from Rob's Rough and Ready books for children, which are based on his experiences as a youngster.

The first of the prints now has pride of place at Uncle Jack's pub on Branch Road, Lower Darwen.
