A SUCCESSFUL 'residents only' parking scheme in Blackburn is set to be extended to other streets nearby.
A trial project in the Infirmary area proved so popular that residents of adjoining streets asked for the scheme to be extended.
And residents in the existing scheme asked for visitor permits to be introduced.
Blackburn planning and highways committee agreed to extend the Infirmary area scheme to both sides of Abbotsford Avenue, Malvern Avenue and Ramsey Road.
On Marlton Road, there will be 'residents only' markings on the east side for 85 metres in a southerly direction from the Abbotsford Road junction, and on the west side for 105 metres in a southerly direction from the Longshaw Street junction.
The council has now frozen applications for other parts of the borough, except those already on the current list.
No more will be considered until the list has been investigated, which is expected to take until 1997.
