A NEW engineering laboratory will help keep British Aerospace's Lancashire plants world beating.
The new facility is in the mechanical engineering department at Loughborough University where dozens of trainees from Lancashire already receive practical training.
The £250,000 New Systems Engineering Technology Laboratory has been jointly funded by BAe and the university and running costs of facilities of around £100,000 a year will be met by BAe.
A systems engineering degree course, jointly designed and taught by university staff and BAe managers, has also been introduced.
Labour leader Tony Blair officially opened the laboratory during a visit to the university to meet students.
