CHILDREN in East Lancashire will get an insight into the workings of the human body, thanks to an anonymous donation of £45,000.
The money will buy a mobile education unit to travel round schools in the region and help children to learn about healthy living.
James Henry, of the Round Table area 34, who works closely with the anonymous trust which gave the donation, presented the cheque to Ray Pollard, treasurer of the Life Education Centres Trust, organisers of the unit. It was given at a dinner organised by Blackburn Greys Round Table where the guest speaker was former Manchester City footballer Mike Summerbee.
Edwin Jack, chairman of the Life Education Trust for Lancashire, said: "The unit will provide a programme of education for living to show primary school children how the body works.
"It will show children how to look after themselves, how to keep fit and healthy and the effects of smoking and drugs using a number of techniques - a model of the human body, video presentations and a giraffe puppet called Harold.
"We eventually hope to raise enough money to buy six mobile units for children in Lancashire."
