A TEENAGE girl was being quizzed today after the dismembered body of a 35-year-old man was found in the bedroom of a tower block flat.
The grim discovery was made by police shortly before 9pm last night at Victoria House flats in Queen's Park Road, Blackburn.
It is understood the victim, Stephen Clarke, may have been dead for 24 hours and had severe injuries to several parts of his body caused by a heavy instrument, possibly a hammer, and a chainsaw.
Dr William Lawler, Home Office pathologist, was called to the scene last night and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out today.
Police said a 19-year-old woman, believed to be a former girlfriend of the man who lived at the same address, had been arrested for murder and was to be interviewed by detectives today.
Forensic science experts were at the blood-stained scene throughout last night and police were this morning still on duty outside the sealed-off flat. A police spokesman today said that they attended the flat "as a result of information received."
The flat involved is the only occupied dwelling on the 13th floor landing.
Residents in the block said they were shocked to hear of what had happened.
Mrs Joan Prysiaznyj, who lives with her young daughter, said: "Its terrible. We have no idea anything had happened. My daughter said 'Will you be all right mum'"
The coroner has been informed and an inquest is expected to be opened later this week.
