I am the Honorary President and founder of Pennington Football Club. The club was started in 1970 and, in the early Eighties, after much voluntary effort by members we were able to open a clubhouse and provide excellent facilities for playing members, supporting the 'Sport for All' concept.
The club accommodates five teams ranging from under eights to open age senior teams.
Sadly, since opening we have been repeatedly attacked by vandals, necessitating diversion of hard-earned funds away from sport to pay for damage repairs.
Last Tuesday there was an accidental fire which damaged part of the clubhouse, followed on Wednesday and Sunday mornings by two more, deliberately started fires causing several more thousands of pounds damage.
The delinquents responsible for these and other acts of vandalism often bask in their notoriety and I am sure that, in certain circles, openly boast about their evil activitiues. I ask anyone who knows these miscreants who, it would appear, are incapable of other than destructive acts, to carefully examine their own moral conscience, judge between right and wrong and report them to the police.
I suggest that those guilty of mindless acts of vandalism should be isolated from civilised society until their social illness has been effectively treated.
