IN RESPONSE to the remarks by M Westhead ("Smashing Tree" - Letters, January 16), I think I speak for a lot of Darweners when I say that I agree wholeheartedly with everything said.
But may I remind everyone that the Christmas tree was the second effort by the council because the first one was too small and puny to hold any lights.
Secondly, if anyone deserves a big thank you for improvements and decorations to the town it should be Mrs K Foster, the Liberal councillor for Whitehall, who was responsible for initiating and following the said work and decorations all the way through from start to finish.
F CROMPTON (Mr), Lightbown Street, Darwen.
