EAST Lancashire rail enthusiasts can hop aboard a charity train on a mission for a church restoration.
The train will be hauled by a class 47 diesel from Crewe and travels from Southport to Edinburgh on Saturday March 30, calling to pick up passengers at Blackburn. The trip has been organised by St Thomas Lydiate Parish Church, Liverpool, and all proceeds will go the church restoration fund.
The journey is via the scenic Settle to Carlisle line and the Scottish Borders, arriving in Edinburgh for lunchtime. The return takes in the West Coast Main Line and drops off passengers at Preston. Provision will be made for people returning to Blackburn.
The cost of the trip is £29.50, with reduction for families and children. For further details, contact 0151 5200226 or 0151 5201328.
