CAMPAIGNERS are hoping people-power will cause a U-turn over Pendle Council's bus shares sell-off decision.

Members of the public are being urged to take to the road tomorrow to voice their opposition to the sale of 50 per cent of Burnley and Pendle Transport to Stagecoach.

Campaigners are also planning a mass demonstration as councillors make their final decision.

A rally and march is being held between Colne and Nelson tomorrow morning and organisers are hoping hundreds of people will turn out. Pendle MP Gordon Prentice and his Burnley Labour colleague Peter Pike will address a rally outside Colne Jobcentre at 10.30am.

Other speakers will be Euro MP Mark Hendrick and Jim Bowie of the Transport and General Workers Union.

The marchers will leave Colne at 11am and walk to Nelson for another rally in the Place de Creil.

Pendle Labour Party is calling for opponents to the sale to join a demonstration outside Nelson Town Hall on Wednesday night as a meeting of the full council debates the final decision.

People are being urged to pack the public gallery to show the strength of feeling.

Pendle's ruling Liberals say the poor response to public meetings and lack of complaints shows local people do not care who runs the buses, as long as the service is a good one.
