IN MY opinion, it is people like David Pearson (Letters, January 17) who are responsible for the uncaring attitude of others.
He obviously resents helping the poor, of whom there are far too many.
With a little generosity on everyone's part, no one in this world need go hungry or be homeless.
There are ample resources and expertise in this beautiful world of ours to feed, clothe and house everyone.
Unfortunately, too many people, including politicians, business gurus, international businesses as well as ordinary people have this awful "me first" mentality.
I know there are economic problems in this country. I wonder what Mr Pearson would think if he lived in Africa, India or Rwanda, or was living in a camp on the edge of Zaire, or if he was a Kurd living in Iraq?
He would be begging for a helping hand, wouldn't he?
So, come on Mr Pearson, be a Good Samaritan. None of us should walk by on the other side.
If we do, the problem may well arrive on our side of the road.
