RICH spices of the East were sampled by an East Lancashire Mayor and Mayoress when they were invited to an India Republic Day.
Blackburn Mayor Maureen Bateson and Mayoress Margery Caville were treated to a buffet dinner followed by traditional classical folk dancing and music at the Ardley Centre, Blackburn.
They were also presented with a cheque for £100 by Dr Sarah Joseph, treasurer of the India League.
Mr Ramesh Pandey, the Consul General of India, was also a special guest at the event, which was organised by the Blackburn and District India League.
The aim of the evening was to help people understand Indian culture and to promote friendly relations between people of different countries, races and religions.
