A SHORT-TIME working schedule could help to save jobs at a Clitheroe company.
The 110 staff at Lappet Manufacturing Company in Lowergate will be asked to stop working for one week and then return on a short-time programme until a surplus of stock has cleared.
The company has been one of the local business success stories in recent years.
Lappet's manufactures the traditional Arab head shawls worn by men in countries such as Saudi Arabia.
Mr Bob Quick from the company said: "Unfortunately we have too much stock in our depot in Saudi because it is not clearing as quickly as we anticipated.
"We are faced with the situation of trying to keep our staff in jobs, yet not putting ourselves out of business and we are preparing to go on a short time working schedule.
"A full programme has not yet been worked out, but we will be taking it a week at a time."
The Clitheroe factory is one of four Lappet sites in the country, all will be undertaking the short-time working.
