YOU report (LET, January 19) that Rossendale General Hospital has turned people away because of a bed shortage. Yet, they are planning to close 31 beds.
Park Lee Hospital, Blackburn, is due to close with the loss of 40 beds. When will this lunacy end?
Local people are being sent as far as Nottingham for beds, and we are told that NHS managerial staff far outnumber nurses.
Instead of the government squandering money abroad, it is time they ploughed it into the nursing and hospital services.
And instead of the National Lottery ploughing money into the toffs' posh opera houses, they should give the NHS a really generous slice.
After all, it is the public who provide the money. So let us have some sanity and fairness.
J SMITH (Mr), Leeds Close, Blackburn.
