MUSICAL heart-throb Darren Day is returning to Blackpool for a brand new stage version of Summer Holiday - but mystery surrounds the exact dates of his performances.

Darren will play the lead role in the Opera House's summer season show, a £1.5million production adapted for the stage from the famous Cliff Richard film.

But producers are remaining tight-lipped about the dates even though theatregoers can get ticket information directly from the box office. It is quite a coup for Opera House owners First Leisure as the show will first appear in the resort before moving to the West End.

And it will mean a welcome return for Darren who went down a storm when he last appeared at the Winter Gardens in Great Expectations and holds Blackpool close to his heart.

"I remember visiting as a child and being taken to see the various shows - I always used to wish I was on stage," he said.

His big break came with appearances in smash-hit musicals such as Joseph and Copacabana. Now he has signed a deal worth £500,000.

Brian Crompton, First Leisure consultant, commented: "Darren is a very popular artiste who has shown tremendous talent when performing previously at the Opera House. We are delighted he is returning for this production.

"The show with its famous songs should go down very well as summer entertainment with Blackpool audiences." Booking information is available from the box office on (01253) 27786.
