HOSPITAL staff have got the thumbs-up for their skills in treating patients with minor injuries - from their top critic!
SLIC campaign leader Cllr Brian Jarvis and volunteer Jim Croft toured the minor injuries unit after being invited by staff who were concerned at the movement's criticism.
He said:"I have no hesitation in giving it the thumbs-up and apologise to staff who were upset about constant attacks and references to the unit as a 'dog bite' clinic.
"I've explained that 'dog bite clinic' phrase was coined in a war of words with the NHS Trust when we were battling to retain Leigh's accident and emergency department.
"I can endorse the minor injuries unit is manned by dedicated staff with accident and emergency experience who do their best within the constraints of the facility. We have no grumbles with that. It was never our intention to discredit or upset staff.
"But we are still saying a place the size of Leigh should have its own first class accident and emergency facility. That fight will continue!"
