RESPONDING to the Unison campaign against Bury Council's library closure policy local MP David Sumberg said this week that he is appalled that they are considering substantial cuts in the service.
"I join with Unison, the public workers' trade union, in condemning those Labour councillors who appear to give such a low priority to children, and to the needs of all those for whom the local library is a much respected and valuable local service."
Mr Sumberg concluded: "There is no justification for Bury Labour Council to pursue a policy of library closures and I shall do all I can to stop philistine proposals of this kind."
