The Clarets travel to Brentford on Saturday knowing that their form is as unpredictable as the off-pitch issues which now seem to be reaching crisis point.

Burnley supporters have been through a lot over the last couple of weeks. Harry Potts' death put all other matters into perspective for a while, but the quarrelling, speculation and grumbling amongst fans continues with renewed vigour.

By now, fans must be used to the drastic mood swings which can accompany true support for a football team. The short-lived exhilaration caused by the 4-3 win against Stockport soon changed to the uneasy depression brought about by defeats against Rotherham and Oxford United.

Burnley have some tough matches ahead - including two against high-flyers Swindon - and the fact that they can so easily lose to lesser second division teams is not encouraging.

The Clarets, who beat Brentford 1-0 at Turf Moor back in August, go to Griffin Park without Marlon Beresford, who is out for six weeks after his double hernia operation.

Wayne Russell is his able understudy, but Jimmy Mullen has been looking for extra goalkeeping cover. Attempts to bring Manchester United's Kevin Pilkington and Arsenal's Lee Harper on loan were both rejected.

Mullen has signed Crystal Palace's Jimmy Glass on a month's loan. He was expected to debut against Grimsby in last night's (January 31) Pontin's League match.

ZUnconfirmed new date for the frozen-off Bristol Rovers match is Tuesday, March 5, conditional on Rovers' Auto Windscreen fixtures.
