PLANS by Blackburn Council to start shooting hundreds of the town's pigeons are sure to upset bird-lovers in the community.
But if rats were the target, few would protest.
Hand-in-hand with this proposals, then, should be a little public education - on the facts that, as well as making a mess of buildings, feral pigeons are an even greater public health hazard than rats.
Misplaced sentiment should not get in the way of common sense or the public good.
