A GOVERNMENT minister has been told to tell the people of Lancashire which land they should be able to walk over because its owners get tax relief.
Pendle MP Gordon Prentice is furious that six wealthy landowners in the county are exempted from inheritance tax because they allow public access to their property but do not tell anyone where the land is.
He has demanded that financial secretary to the Treasury, Michael Jack - himself a Lancashire MP - take action to ensure that the landowners publicise people's right to walk on their land.
He told Mr Jack: "In Lancashire six landowning individuals have been exempted from inheritance tax because I don't know who they are or where their land is that I can supposedly walk over.
"The tax laws are being abused and really do need tightening up."
