A MAJOR conference aimed at reducing road casualties in Lancashire was taking place today at Lancashire Constabulary headquarters.
In line with other areas, casualties increased significantly in Lancashire in 1994 but showed a decrease in 1995.
The conference will bring together groups and organisations which might influence road safety.
Council highways and transport committee vice chairman Richard Toon said: "The county council has always been to the forefront with new road safety initiatives and I welcome this positive response to the worrying increase in road casualties in 1994.
"I am sure the conference will lead to an improvement in the overall effectiveness of road safety activities within the county."
