I AM amazed, but not the least surprised, to read the report in The Journal dated February 22 1996 "Birth shock for people in rush".
I wonder where the four councillors mentioned were, when the re-organisation of the Wigan and Leigh Registration Service was discussed and approved, both at committee and council meetings.
Was this a case of all four councillors being absent? In which case, I think they should have read the minutes relating to such action, or were they at these meetings, and not aware of the contents being discussed and voted for.
If not, was this a case of voting for a Labour proposal, and not giving any consideration to any inconvenience that could and would be encountered by the people of Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley.
Whatever the answers may be, I consider this is now a case of complaining when one of the councillors himself experienced this problem.
Any such complaining should have been voiced at the time of the meetings and their disapproval registered. As elected Labour councillors I consider they have neglected their duties and are now trying to cover up for their errors.
In reply to Cllr Jarvis's comment, "It's another facility Leigh has lost", I say to the people of Leigh "Four councillors you can do without".
