THOUSANDS of Burnley people were to see their poll tax demands slashed this year - thanks to a massive Government cash injection.

Councillors set a community charge of £349 - £50 up on last year and the lowest in Lancashire.

But the average bill was to be just £285, thanks to a multi-million pounds injection to help terraced house residents hardest hit by the switch from rates.
