OVER the next few weeks over 200 questionnaires will be mailed to local businesses in Leigh and Golborne to find out how the towns can be improved.

It is part of an on-going study by property consultants Gerald Eve who have been commissioned by Coalfield Challenge.

The findings will prove invaluable in helping to decide what practical steps can be made to attract investment to the town centres, blighted in recent years through the demise of the mining industry.

Rob Harris, head of research for Gerald Eve, said: "We have already canvasses the views of shoppers using Leigh, but town centres have far more to offer than just shops. The business community knows how the centres work.

"Our role is to bring forward the best ideas from all involved in the town centres and help develop a strategy of future planned improvements which are both realistic and appropriate."
