A MAN died while being prepared for a routine operation at Burnley General Hospital, an inquest was told.
John Mcgregor Swinton, a 61-year-old joiner, of Appleby Drive, Barrowford, died from broncho pneumonia and septicaemia resulting in a heart attack following the induction of anaesthetics.
Andrew Swinton, of Laund Gate, Fence, said his father had been a fit and active man and had not needed medical treatment until the operation to remove a lump from the palm of his hand.
The inquest heard that his father, originally from Sterling, Scotland, was admitted to hospital to have the problem with his hand corrected.
While being prepared for the operation, which never actually took place, an "incident'' occurred and Mr Swinton never regained consciousness.
He died in Burnley General Hospital on Wednesday.
The hearing for adjourned to a later date.
