TOWN centre shoppers in Burnley are facing a new increase in car parking charges.
Proposals are being put to councillors to drop the one-hour stay on all shoppers' car parks, Monday to Friday, so that the minimum charge will go up from 50p to 60p.
Motorists will then be able to park for up to two hours. The single Saturday charge of 75p per visit will remain.
It is also recommended that the charge for commuter car parks should go up by 10p to £1.40 per visit.
A report to Thursday's Planning and Environment Committee suggests that the merging of the 0-1 hour and 1-2 hour bands will encourage shoppers to stay longer.
It is estimated the increase in charges will raise £39,000 a year, less the initial cost of £7,000 for legal notices, advertising, changing signs, adjusting ticket machines and general administration.
