FORMER Todmorden journalist, Horace Greenwood Stephenson has left money to six charities in his will.
Mr Greenwood, of Hallroyd Crescent, Todmorden, died on New Year's Eve, aged 89.
He spent his life in the newspaper industry starting out at the Todmorden News and then working at the Huddersfield Examiner for many years.
He also wrote books on Todmorden Golf and Cricket Clubs, being a member of both, as well as a keen bowler.
Mr Stephenson left net estate valued at between £125,000 and £145,000.
He left £12,000 and effects to personal legatees with the residue being divided equally between St Mary's Parish Church, Todmorden, Todmorden Society for the Blind, Halifax Royal Infirmary, with the wish for it to be used for equipment or benefits not normally provided from Health Service or Heath Trust sources, Overgate Hospice, Elland, St John Ambulance Brigade, Todmorden Division, and Marie Curie Memorial Foundation.
Probate has been granted to neighbour Donald Schofield who said: "Horace only returned to Todmorden on retirement. He was a good friend and neighbour. He wanted to leave something to local charities. He was a gentleman.''
