DETECTIVES probing the mystery death of Padiham man George Jarrad now believe he was the victim of an accident.
A murder-style inquiry was launched when Mr Jarrad, 52, was found dying on the driveway of his Warwick Drive home by his 15-year-old son, David.
Somewhere between Rosegrove Railway Club and home Mr Jarrad had suffered head injuries. The cause of his death was a fractured skull.
Detective Inspector Ian Kennedy said post mortem examination evidence had been re-evaluated and it had been concluded there had been no assault.
It is thought Mr Jarrad must have fallen and then managed to get as far as his front door before he collapsed. He never regained consciousness.
Police still want the man wearing military-style clothing seen near to Mr Jarrad's home at about 12.30am on Friday, March 1, the day he died, to come forward.
