RIBBLE Valley Tory MP Nigel Evans has been defending the monarchy on American breakfast time TV.
He said the monarchy provided continuity, stability and a head of state above politics.
Mr Evans dismissed talk of Will Carling and Princess Diana as "tabloid tittle-tattle" irrelevant to the institution of the monarchy, and added that the Queen's desire to retire to the Ribble Valley was evidence of the very best taste.
