A MURDER investigation is underway on the holiday island of Lanzarote after a 27-year-old man was found dying from stab wounds.
Mark Richmond from Blackburn was found lying in the road outside a popular disco in the resort of Puerto de Carmen.
He had been stabbed in the chest and was rushed to hospital in the island's capital, Arrecife, but died shortly afterwards.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard on the island said that Mr Richmond had been living in an apartment in Arrecife with three other Britons. "There were no witnesses to what happened and we are still trying to establish what was behind this killing," he said.
The Foreign Office today confirmed that they had been made aware of Mr Richmond's death and that his family, who are understood to live in Preston, had been informed.
A spokesman said he was unable to say whether Mr Richmond was working on Lanzarote or on holiday.
