NEW cycle lanes and road markings have been introduced on both sides of Walmersley Road in Bury.
They run between Bury General Hospital, Buckley Street, and into St Mark's Square.
The green tracks are Bury's first on-road cycle lanes which are set to provide safer travel for two-wheelers.
The lanes have been marked a distinctive green to ensure their visibility to keep cars away from them.
Special signs have been erected to warn motorists and prevent cars parking illegally when the times for the cycle lanes are in operation.
Bury Metro's Traffic and Engineering Sub-Committee Chairman, Sean Cassidy said: "As a Council we are very supportive of any moves to promote alternative transport to the car.
"If we can encourage people to take to two wheels and cycle it would be a great environmental plus."
