HEYSHAM Port could be in line for a direct link to the Channel Tunnel after proposals for a new rail freight terminal were revealed.
The plan would help clear lorries off Britain's overloaded road network in an environmentally friendly move to have them carried by rail.
And the scheme could create hundreds of new jobs in the area if the new link gets the go-ahead.
The decision to create a link through Heysham from Ireland to Europe could rest on a promise of investment from Railtrack.
