A CRUMBLING primary school was being kept under 24-hour surveillance costing £420, as a safety precaution.

Arrangements had been made for a security firm to employ two men to be permanently on the site of Burnley Wood County Primary to avoid danger to trespassers because of structural problems.

The school was evacuated because the safety of pupils and staff could no longer be guaranteed.
