A NEIGHBOUR of murdered Bolton prostitute Angela Heyes was today appearing in court, charged with her brutal killing.

Steven Penn, 37, of Park Road, was due to appear before Bolton magistrates this morning accused of murdering the 33-year-old.

Her partially clothed body was discovered dumped by a road near Egerton on the moors above Darwen on January 14.

Murder squad detectives arrested Penn on Wednesday and were granted special permission by magistrates to keep questioning him in custody until they charged him last night.

Angela had lived alone in her Park Road bedsit for about a year before her death.

She was last seen alive at the King William IV pub on Manchester Road on January 5 and her body was discovered off Stones Bank Road near Egerton nine days later.

Detectives, led by Det Supt John Waterworth, followed up a series of local and national leads during the nine week investigation.

They visited various addresses in the Bolton area and also liaised with other police forces checking possible links with other unsolved killings.

Angela, who was known to work as a prostitute picking up clients in town centre pubs, had been strangled and violently sexually assaulted. She was naked apart from bra and briefs when a passing cyclist spotted her body.

Her body is believed to have lain undiscovered for several days.
