IT'S NEVER too early to learn the energy-saving lesson - in fact, the younger the better.
Youngsters from St Thomas's CE School, Blackburn, have been learning valuable facts about conserving resources
With the help of the Esso Young Energy Savers Scheme and Groundwork education officer Pete St John, the school held an energy circus.
And now the pupils are getting ready to carry out a green audit at the school and look at ways in which energy - and money - can be saved.
Teacher Mrs Irene Nuttall said: "We held the event to help teach pupils about the various aspects of energy and how they can conserve energy. "They did various experiments, which they enjoyed. Not only did these provide valuable scientific lessons but hopefully they can now take them outside the classroom into their homes and also raise their awareness about the impact our energy use is having on the world."
The school is also hoping to cut down its energy bills.
Possible energy savings are constantly being identified and staff and pupils are making sure lights are switched off, doors closed and running taps turned off. Next week pupils will do their own energy audit.
"Pupils will be taking the temperatures in classrooms and measuring the differences when doors are open and closed," said Mrs Nuttall.
"We hope this will encourage them into better habits."
