TURF Moor chief Adrian Heath will step up his hunt for fresh faces today with the Endsleigh League transfer embargo 10 days away.
Heath is tracking a number of targets and I understand there could still be life in his attempt to bring Tranmere Rovers winger Johnny Morrissey to Turf Moor.
Heath said: "I am working hard to bring at least one fresh face in. We are a little bit thin on the ground.
"But I am not going to bring people in just because we've got four players injured. I want people in who are going to hold their own place at Burnley for the next two or three years. It would be short-sighted to do anything else."
But Heath was satisfied with Burnley's 0-0 draw against high-flying Swindon Town after the Clarets turned in one of their best home displays of the campaign.
"We are getting better and we are making progress and that is a very pleasing factor," said Heath.
"Steve McMahon said we were one of the better sides they've played this season. That was a nice compliment."
Swindon were denied a penalty when Mark Winstanley hauled down striker Steve Finney. Heath added: "I think they should have had a penalty. But we played ever so well in the first half and we were by far the better side.
"I thought our movement was good. Our passing was a lot better, although we were perhaps not quite as good in the second period and we made more errors.
"Overall, though, I thought it was a really positive performance and I think my players can hold their heads up after that display. "I think the supporters quite liked what they saw out on the field. In general I am quite pleased.
"We've played the two leading sides in Division Two in under a week and we've emerged with a great deal of credit. Now I am searching for a further improvement at Crewe tomorrow night."
Heath added: "A number of things we've worked at in training have come to fruition. I was pleased with Paul Weller. He did a lot better. We defended magnificently as well. Now we have to start to try and get more of an end product from our possession."
Meanwhile, Heath faces a mounting injury crisis before tomorrow's Division Two engagement at Gresty Road.
Jamie Hoyland is due to have keyhole knee surgery tomorrow which could keep him out of action for between three and four weeks.
Striker Liam Robinson, who was forced to miss the weekend's action with a hamstring injury, is likely to be out for a fortnight. John Francis is also in the wars.
He faces up to a month on the sidelines after sustaining medial ligament damage.
The Burnley A team fought back from two goals down to rescue a point in a 3-3 draw against Blackpool A at Squires Gate. Glen Davies, Anthony McCluskey and Chris Scott found the target. The B team lost 1-0 to Rochdale A at Gawthorpe.
Ex-Clarets striker John Gayle netted on his Gillingham debut as he began a month's loan from Stoke City in the 1-0 victory at Mansfield.
