A COLLEGE is a front-runner in the increasingly competitive world of education, according to its annual report.

The glossy document sets out Nelson and Colne College's achievements over the past 12 months and looks forward to a new year.

Bernard Rothwell, chairman of the college's board of corporation, said: "There is absolutely no doubt that the college is now operating in a very competitive marketplace.

"I am delighted to say we can feel very satisfied with our performance.

"Our success is not achieved by accident but is due to the untiring efforts of our staff."

He added: "The college has achieved many successes in this past year and we can look forward to 1996 with confidence."

College principal, Kath Belton, said: "We have responded to and met the increasing demands made upon us and will continue to plan our future in an environment of uncertainty.

"The true progress and success of the college is measured in terms of the successes of its students.

"The college's mission is to maximise individual potential and success is measured by the significant progress towards that goal."

The college has more than 200 full-time staff serving 1,737 full-time and 5,707 part-time students.
