I WAS quite stunned by the uncanny and eerie world of Donald Pearson (Letters, March 14), who put his official hat on to rebuke the Blackburn Labour Council for its increase in council tax.
On the surface, it seems that the Conservatives have people's interests at heart. After all, they would not put up the council tax to that extent, would they? Well, no, they would much rather let people lose their jobs.
However, if I were the vice chairman of Blackburn Conservatives, before castigating the ruling committees, I would look at just why this has happened.
And, in the overall picture of council tax rises, the melodramatics of the Liberals and the Tories are partially to blame.
As Coun Bill Taylor says (Letters, March 12), they were more interested in politics than in people's livelihoods. This says a lot for where the Tories' priorities lie.
