STANLEY slumped to defeat at Knowsley in one of their worst performances of the season.
Knowsley almost took a 14th minute lead when Rob Mulloy turned a Mark Wilde shot round the post for a corner. Six minutes later Mulloy was beaten to the ball by Wilde but his chip shot was cleared off the line by Andy Burns.
Accrington's best chance of the half came on 35 minutes. A good move involving Brian Welch and Mark Rawstron set up Darren Thornton, but he shot narrowly wide.
Wilde had another effort saved by Mulloy on 50 minutes but three minutes later Knowsley took the lead with a long range shot by Alan Fahy which went into the net off the post.
Stanley forced a series of corners late on, Ged Walsh hitting the bar direct from one.
