Welling United 1 Morecambe 0 MORECAMBE'S run of bad results continued on Saturday when they were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline again, this time against Conference strugglers Welling United. The Shrimps were beaten with a stunning 25-yard strike from 16-year-old Richard Dimmock, the youngest ever player to score in the GM Vauxhall Conference, making just his second appearance for the Wings. Morecambe could have taken a first half lead against relegation threatened Welling when Ian Monk ran clear and lobbed the advancing 'keeper but saw his effort drift wide of the post.
Neither defence faced any serious pressure in the first half of a disappointing game that saw Morecambe lowered to Welling's dreary level.
And it was the home side that snatched the points on 56 minutes thanks to a moment of indecision from the Shrimps' backline and some fine opportunism from young Dimmock.
The teenager ran on to a loose ball 25 yards from Steve McIlhargey's goal and, with the defenders allowing him time to line up a shot, sent the ball whizzing into the back of the net.
The home side should have made it two when the referee awarded a controversial penalty against Robbie Armstrong but Morah's spot kick was easily saved by McIlhargey. The closest Morecambe came to an equaliser was when new signing Justin Jackson, the 20-year-old former Ayr United front man, sent a shot rolling wide of the post with just minutes remaining. All change at Christie Park IT'S all change at Christie Park this week with three players leaving and one striker and two new backroom boys arriving at the club. We all know about John Coleman's departure to Lancaster City. This week midfielders Paul Comstive, now at Chorley, and Steve Foley have also left the club. Coleman's place in the side could be taken by new signing Justin Jackson, 20, who made his debut against Halifax Town last week after signing from Ayr United.
Behind the scenes, Jim Harvey's training team has a complete new look with two new members arriving this week.
The big news surrounded the signing of new assistant manager Tony Hesketh, 41, who resigned as manager of Unibond Premier League side Barrow AFC on Monday. He has previously managed Netherfield.
Barrow are currently in third place in the Unibond league and reached the second round proper of the FA Cup this season before going out to Wigan.
After his appointment, Tony said: "It's tremendous. I am fortunate to be joining such a successful club as Morecambe and I'm looking forward to Conference football, working with Jim Harvey and hopefully bringing more success to Christie Park."
Morecambe have also announced the appointment of George Norrie as first team coach. Norrie, who was reserve team manager in 1990, has been manager at Workington and assistant at Netherfield.
He has also helped to unearth the talents of players such as Michael Knowles, Jamie McGowan and Justin Jackson.
