CAPTAIN Marvel Dave Sivill saved his best to last for Tyldesley RU. His super solo try late in the game clinched a 22-16 thriller against Eccles - victory clinched despite playing most of the game with 14 men.
Their policy of not playing with any replacements in order to strengthen the lower teams almost backfired for the second week in succession.
Early chances were squandered, but Sivill pounced on an Eccles error for the first try, which he also goaled. But stand-off Eddie Wallbank was injured in the approach and he had to leave the field.
Tyldesley were not deterred and tries came from Fraser Macintosh and Brent Broadhurst, James O'Connor setting up the third score. Eccles battled back for 17-16. But Sivill had the last word.
The 2nds were beaten 19-17, the 3rds won 45-7 and the 4ths won 17-14, all against Eccles.
On Saturday (March 23) Wigan visit Well Street for a Matthew Brown sponsored game (3pm).
A TRY from Pete Hawkrigg and a penalty from Andy Partington secured a tense 8-6 win for Lostock at Aspull.
Fine play from Paul Short and Taff Evans plus an impressive pack performance from Phil Austin.
A week earlier Lostock fell 15-10 in a thriller at Greater Manchester. Dave Ball scored a try in his final game for the club, Partington hit the goals.
Lostock 2nds fell 23-17 to Aspull despite tries from Pete Flitcroft, Alan Wardley and Ian Charnock.
QUICKFIRE tries from Matthew Brown secured a 20-13 win for Leigh against Old Aldwinians.
Leigh were given the dream start when Ross Fletcher intercepted and raced 40 yards to score under the posts.
Steve McKenna goaled and then added a penalty.
But the visitors hit back before Brown's double settled it.
Nick Aspinall was a tower in the line-outs, Philip Hewitt (the youngest player on the field) was superb at prop, Brown and Philip Lee were never out of the action and, behind a power pack, Alan Higson and McKenna did their fair share of tackling.
Leigh 3rds beat Old Aldwinians 38-7 with tries by Greenough, Kenwright 2, Johnson, Sutherland (his first try for the club) and Williams.
CULCHETH beat West Park 15-5, Skarratts and Waterhouse getting the tries. That followed a 38-16 at Sedgley Park with tries from Ryan, J Welsby, Bray, Parr, Lawton and Devlin.
